Support Groups and Web Sites

If you are in New Zealand and wanting to contact a local FMS support group, you should in the first instance contact Arthritis New Zealand and enquire there about groups in your area.  Many groups are listed on their web site - click on the 'service centres' button at the top of their page and then click on the map in the region you are in.  The information that comes up will include how to contact the office in that area as well as details of the various groups run by them.

Also, please feel free to contact me; I can help to point you in the right direction if you're needing assistance, and also I may be able to put you in touch with a fellow FMS person in your area.

I have also come across several support group lists, where you subscribe and then receive emails that are sent to the list address. Some lists are not very active, others have 50 to 100 messages a day. I suggest organising your email so that mail from each list is directed to a folder created especially for that list, to keep it separate from your personal mail (see my Computer Help page for directions). These lists also often have an archive facility, which enables subscribers to research topics that have been discussed in the past.

The original International Guai-Support Group list, owned and moderated by Tesa Marcon, has been in action since October 1997. Huge resources are available here, including huge lists of salicylate-free products and ingredients.  I work voluntarily for Tesa as her List-Owner's Assistant, as well as a *Sal-Mentor, and Posting Buddy.  The web site is freely available to all-comers, however the list is private - you need to become a member to gain access.  This is a friendly, supportive environment where you can discuss any aspect of the guai protocol, as well as other aspects of FMS and co-existing conditions.

The list and archives were originally hosted by St John's University, but late in 2005 saw a move to L-Soft as a result of a change in policy at St John's.

Another list formerly hosted by St John's University is FMS-Recovery , which is available for discussing any topic relating to FMS.  This is also a private list, click here to join; there is no web site for this group, other than the archives access page.  I'm not a current member of this group, but I have been a member in the past.

If you are in the UK, try The UK-FMS-Guai Website for more region-specific help and support; the list attached to this web site is private, click here to join.  I am not a member of this group.

In Australia: the Aussie CFS/FMS Guai Group is a nice, supportive environment to chat about anything to do with FMS and guai.  It has members from around the world, not just Australia and New Zealand, and is one of the friendliest groups I've come across.  This is a private group; you need to be a member to access both the web pages and the list discussions.  Click here to join.
